What is Eventing?
Eventing could be termed an "equestrian triathlon." It involves working with a horse both on the flat and over fences. The three phases are: dressage, endurance (or cross-country), and show jumping. Over the centuries it has developed from the test of the ideal military charger into an Olympic Sport. Eventing has now evolved into an exciting sport attracting interest from all levels and ages of sports enthusiasts, from weekend hobby riders to professional international stars.
The Park
The idea for the Archer Eventing Park was conceived by Allison Murphy, an active eventing competitor based in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Allison reached out to local eventing community groups in Wyoming and Northern Colorado to share her idea for a local eventing course and found tremendous need and support for a public eventing venue for Northern Colorado and Southeastern Wyoming. The Archer Eventing Park is set on approximately 60 acres of land leased from Laramie County just east of Cheyenne, Wyoming. The Laramie County Commissioners have graciously made this land available to the local eventing community for the design and build of a world class cross country course. The Event at Archer utilizes the fairground’s 2 large outdoor arenas, 50+/- covered stalls, 48 +/- uncovered stalls. The park has ample trailer and RV parking and hookups. Stabling at Archer is limited to about 150 horses however there are several local overflow facilities that support additional RV, Camper Hookups and Stalls.
Fundraising
We have yearly goals for fundraising to support the Eventing Park. The Event at Archer is a federally recognized 501(c)3 and as such donations can be used for Tax Purposes. Our fundraising goals are set each year to fund, design and construct additional levels and courses at the Archer Eventing Park. We have 5 levels of competition from Starter to Preliminary. Through the profits from clinics, shows and schooling fees, we have been able to add preliminary and build a lovely show jumping course and purchase own our own dressage arena.
Progress
Allison Murphy, the founder of The Event at Archer, recognized that a planning and management would be critical for the successful creation of an eventing park and event, including adding a dedicated committee including Melinda Hofmeister, Tory Poulton, Erin Contino and Chris Kawcek.
The Committee works diligently to create a new events and opportunities in Area IX. From our 1st show in the Fall of 2017, we continue to grow and build an venue and show catered for the competitor. Each year Archer offers inexpensive schooling, clinics, schooling shows and recognized events.
Outlook
The event draws competitors from Wyoming, Colorado, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Arizona, South Dakota, Idaho, Kansas and Utah. The Event at Archer continues to desire to be a friendly competitor favorite in Area IX.
